Apple have released the a Public Beta of their latest Safari browser.
http://apple.com/safari
And they've released it for Windows
It downloaded and installed on XP quickly and cleanly, but Vista wasn't such a pleasure. The dreaded error code 2738: "We're trying to do something clever with vbscript, but haven't fixed this problem in any of our installers including itunes and now safrari beta 3". Oh well.
No review this morning then. Just a couple of brief observations:
For the 5 minutes i used it yesterday, it's clean and quick.
- I noticed the interface has a couple of minor quirks with interface objects behaving in the default apple mac fashion rather than the windows way.
- Scrolling a web page with embeded flash content up and down caused some minor rendering artifacts
The activity feature is quite handy for me, shows a list and size of http requests being generated by the page and continues updating as flash objects query and requery servers. Nowhere near the detail that something like firebug would contain though, but nice to have by default.
